The Fairy Chronicles

The Fairy Chronicles are a new fantasy series of chapter books targeted for 7-11 year old girls. My oldest daughters who are seven and nine were thrilled to receive Marigold and the Feather of Hope and Dragonfly and the Web of Dreams for review since they are quite captivated by fairies and magical powers.

We read them together since some of the vocabulary was too complex for my seven year old. The series are modern day fairy tales about ordinary nine year old girls who find out that they are fairies. Each fairy has her own talents, wand, and mentor.

My daughters loved these books and are anxiously awaiting the release of the next two in the series. How could they not? Most girls love the thought of flying, talking to animals, and having a magic wand. The second book, Dragonfly and the Web of Dreams, was their favorite. They thought the knomes were really fun and the trick ending was an unexpected surprise.

What I love about these books is that their positive messages about friendship and protecting the environment. I also love that they portray girls as strong and courageous with the power to do anything. They are beautifully illustrated and each book had fun fairy activities and facts.
