Lipstick to Crayons was created by two sisters “joined at the hip” despite living miles apart. Different in many ways, yet both full of an energetic drive to create, design, and start projects (and browse the internet any chance they get!). Six kids between them, yet they still yearn to maintain their “hip & stylish” former selves.

Back to Beauty

My sister gave me permission to share one of her frumpy mom stories.

She is a WAHM of two. Taking care of herself hardly makes it onto her priority list. Most of her pants have a stretched out waistband because she hasn’t found the time to buy clothes since losing the weight she gained with her last pregnancy.

On a recent trip to the grocery store she had a very embarrassing mishap. Her grocery cart got away from her and as she chased it through the parking lot her much too big pants fell down to her knees. Wouldn’t had been so bad if there wasn’t anyone in the parking lot to see but there were several people around who got a very funny story to tell. The worst part was that she didn’t have on any underwear because she didn’t have any clean underwear to put on that morning!

I shared this story because according to the recent Suave Motherhood vs. Womanhood report , 77 percent of moms admit they don’t spend enough time on themselves, yet nearly 75 percent say taking care of themselves makes them feel happier, more attractive and more self-confident. The nationwide study also revealed that more than half of moms have more time for themselves when their children are back in school.

Did you know that of all the purchases made by moms last month, 80% were back-to-school supplies. Only 2% were beauty supplies.

The average mom devotes 87.9 minutes a day to meals and only 4.2 minutes to her hair.

80% of moms say that they let themselves go. 100% can get themselves back.

Okay moms, school is back in session and you are still wearing your mom issued prison uniform of sweats and a scrunchie. Let’s burn our mom jeans and anything with an elastic waistband. The holidays are right around the corner so why not squeeze a little more time for ourselves in our busy days. Especially if taking care of ourselves is going to make us happier. We all know that if mama aint happy, aint nobody happy.

We are holding a contest/giveaway to encourage moms to get back to beauty. Leave your link or a comment on this post. We will randomly draw a winner at midnight on Sunday, October 28. Our lucky winner will receive a Suave product set to help kick start their back to beauty pledge.

For an extra entry into our contest:

  1. I don’t know if all is a realistic option for anyone. You must get credit though for having as much as possible.

    :o)

This project is well done. It’s interesting, entertaining, insightful and one way or another makes you stop and think.

    What more could one ask?

Given that, I’m pleased to include you in the new installment of Surfer’s Paradise.

I hope the link serves you well.

  2. I would like to say that I’m not laughing at your sister, but I am… a little.

OK, a lot! Poor thing! that sounds like something I would do, which makes it even more funny.

i once knocked over a voting booth and everyone in the place turned to look at the idiot (me), all except for the hubby. Why? he knew all the racket had to be coming from me. So yeah, I can totally relate.

Believe it or not, I actually had the complete opposite happen to me on my birthday on the 4th. We were going out to dinner, but first i had to run in to Walmart to get material on sale. For once, i looked really nice- hair, make up, jewelry, pants that DIDN’T have elastic in them… I got many dirty looks from customers and employees, like “Who the heck did I think I WAS?”, one employee go so far as to look me up and down like I was from another planet.

That just goes to show you how troly messed up wally world is. ;)

  3. Truly messed up, that should have said.

  4. All linked up HERE.

  5. I am SO going to do this… as soon as I get a minute for myself. :) I’ve got a back to beauty story and a re-commitment to make. Thanks for reminding me to be me first. YOU ROCK!

  6. This was very timely for me. I’m glad you brought it up. I’ll see what kind of reaction I get from my readers. It might make for a lively discussion!!

  8. I feel like I’m finally moving away from frumpy to more fabu now that my kids are out of the toddler stage. My daughter (the queen ‘o fashion) kicks my butt to liven up my clothing.

  9. These day, I go everywhere in pajama pants!

  10. These statistics aren’t true for Denver! Every day I see the most stylish, cute moms. Makes me think twice before heading out in sweats.

The best things I’ve found are at:

And by best, I mean efficient!

  11. I’ve posted. I’ve linked. I’m done with the frump. I’m turning 42 soon and I’m vowing to reclaim bits of ME.

I don’t know how to make a link in a comment (help!), but here’s my post:

Ohh the memories, I don’t think you can get any frumpier that a coat on top of a large nightshirt (t-shirt).

  13. I got the frumpies about 7 years ago. You know you have the frumpies when its bedtime and you still have your nightshirt on. I have been trying to figure out how to get the old me back. I started with some weight loss, maybe one of these days I will figure out the rest :P

  14. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately….I don’t know how to link in a post either but it’s up above….and here…
