Jump Start World
When I heard that Parent Bloggers Network was offering Jump Start World Kindergarten for review I jumped at the chance. (I know, failed attempt to be funny.)
We already own a previous version of Jump Start which is one of my kids favorite computer games to play so I knew this newest version would probably go over well with them. I was not disappointed. Jump Start World Kindergarten rocks!
My son who just turned six has auditory processing issues so getting him to play learning games is not easy. Usually I have to play with him so he doesn’t end up frustrated and defeated. I expected to have to assist him with this game but that turned out to not be the case. He was able to navigate the game with very little assistance from me and his frustration was kept at a minimum with all the encouraging messages. I was able to find out what areas he was struggling with on his progress report in the parents area so I was able to assist him in those areas.
The graphics have greatly improved from earlier Jump Start versions. My son also liked the 3-D graphics because they are similar to other video games he likes to play. The look and feel of the graphics are more like a video game rather than what you would expect from a learning game. My son finds it so much fun to play that I don’t think he realizes that he’s also learning. We’ve even had to set limits on how long he can play the game because he will play it for hours. I have a daughter in second grade who also enjoys it so I’ve purchased the 2nd grade version for her.
There are so many things that I love about this game. I love that it will grow with my son because I can download new Adventure Packs as his skills advance. I love that it helps build his confidence and self esteem with rewards and badges. I love that the game teaches in all educational areas including social skills such as friendship and teamwork. What I think is really cool is how the game uses a real time calendar so the virtual world changes with the seasons. Each time my son played the game I noticed something new such as a happy birthday wish or a job well done message on billboards in the virtual world.
If this game is not on your holiday gift list then it should be. It’s a great inexpensive gift at $19.95 and the recipient’s parents will thank you. A free trial can be downloaded from the Knowledge Adventure store and you can also view a trailer for Jump Start World here.
