Penguins seem to be the animal to watch nowadays. Parents may have had their fill of marching, dancing, and surfing penguins but kids can’t seem to get enough. At least not mine. All four of my kids in ages ranging from two to almost ten were excited about our opportunity to review Pingu: On Thin Ice
for PBN.
Pingu is a collection of claymation shorts featuring a penguin named Pingu who is constantly getting himself into some mischief or “on thin ice”. The penguins speak in a pretend language that had my kids inquiring about what language it was. Actually it is more like giggles, grunts, and sounds that aren’t anywhere as annoying as the Teletubbies. Despite their mostly unintelligible language their message is unmistakable through expressions and gestures.
All my kids were giggling up a storm during the entire 59 minutes of the DVD. I even found the cute little penguin quite humorous and entertaining as he got himself in and out of all kinds of trouble. Many of his antics were the very things my own kids have or will get themselves into such as Pingu pouring his unwanted fish dinner in his backpack which led to a big stinky problem or when he got lost in a snow cave. My son could definitely relate with Pingu having to use a pink snowboard since he had to ride his sister’s pink bike until he got one of his own
My kids give Pingu an A and I would have to agree. The theme song that plays before and after each cartoon short got on my nerves after awhile but not enough to prevent me from viewing. My kids did suggest a feature showing how Pingu was created.
Pingu: On Thin Ice is fun and entertaining for preschoolers and school aged children. There is some potty humor such as a snow sculpture shaped like a toilet, implied flatulence and a brother and sister take a bath together. I did not find it offensive or inappropriate but some parents may.
We were unable to get the flash game on DVD to work properly but the official Pingu website has several fun flash games for your kids to play. .~Kristie

Fab Finds Friday

If you have a toddler in the house then you know about their potty fixation. You know the scenario: trail of toilet paper down the hall or an entire roll floating in the toilet. This has become a daily occurrence in my home especially since my older children can never remember to close the bathroom door when they leave. I’m a bit of a toilet paper snob, buying only the best brand and with six occupants in my home it adds up to a lot of t.p. Every time my toddler renders a roll useless is like throwing money out the window.
I was thrilled when I found the TP Saver which babyproofs your toilet paper. A simple to use gadget that attaches to the toilet paper roll. It reduces the risk of ingestion by dogs or babies, saves paper, money, the environment and reduces stress. The best part is that they are very affordable. Only $6.99 for a 2-pack. No surprise that is was invented by moms. You can find it at Mom Inventors.
Now my toddler will have to find something else to annoy me with. And she will!

I was reluctant to sign up for PBN’s Barney campaign since eight years ago my firstborn became obsessed with the purple dinosaur. She watched her Barney videos and The Barney Movie every chance she got. She owned a Barney toothbrush, the interactive Barney computer game, and slept with her stuffed Barney every night. We even had a Barney birthday party complete with a visit from a purple dinosaur character that was supposed to be Barney. He didn’t look much like Barney but certainly sounded like him. My daughter wasn’t fooled. She wanted the REAL Barney.Needless to say I got a bit burnt out on Barney and all things Barney. So much that I kept Barney away from my next two children. Now I have a toddler in my house again and I’m feeling a bit guilty. I blame my middle children’s bad behavior on their Barney deprived years. Every child should know Barney and the truth is, kids love him. My toddler is no exception.
Barney has turned twenty and is celebrating with a newly released direct-to-DVD special “Celebrating Around The World.” Barney along with his young explorers learn about different cultures, their traditional music and dance, and explore the ways people celebrate around the world.
The DVD runs nearly 60 minutes and is filled with plenty of singing and dancing to entertain the younger crowd. My toddler especially loved the dancing. I even learned a thing or two about how other cultures celebrate.
Barney has remained a big hit with preschoolers and parents for twenty years because he’s good wholesome fun. I expect he will be around for another twenty years.~Kristie
Barney: Celebrating Around The World will be released on January 29.

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here and if you are hosting a party you are probably thinking about what food to serve. Boboli has made it easy to entertain with the Boboli Pizza Tailgate, a buffet featuring pre-made toppings, sauces and Boboli pizza crusts. There are 32 recipes to choose from inspired by your 32 favorite football cities. One recipe that isn’t listed that I love to serve at my parties is a Boboli topped with artichoke dip. Just heat it in a 350 degree oven until hot. Cut into squares. It’s always a big hit at my parties.
You can feel good about serving these recipes because Boboli Original, Thin, or 100% Whole Wheat Pizza Crusts are cholesterol-free and trans-fat free.
To further get into the spirit of football and tailgating season, Boboli is giving away a trip for four to one of the great American football cities of the winner’s choice. The sweepstakes ends on February 17, 2008. View the full Official Rules at www.boboli.com.
Another snack you can serve and feel good about is the new Cheerios Snack Mix, a wholesome snack the entire family will enjoy. Comes in Original or Cheddar and has 60-65% less fat than regular potato chips. My family had the opportunity to try a bag and they loved it.
What is your favorite recipe to serve at parties?

Here’s another genius invention I wish I had thought of. The hip-T to protect your rear view from an unwanted game of peek-a-boo. I don’t know about you but I’m tired of showing my crack every time I bend over and I’m really tired of seeing everyone else’s. (Hint, hint, sis). The hip-T is a great solution for covering our cracks and thongs plus the added bonus of containing the dreaded muffin top. They add a layer without all the layering and are fashionably cute. You can choose from basic colors, patterns, or lace trimmed.
The hip-T s a band made from cotton with a touch of spandex for stretch. With the hip-T you can bend over with confidence.~Kristie
