My proposal story is not really unique but still cute. It was Christmas Eve and my husband had bought this huge teddy bear for me that was under the tree. He handed it to me and there was a little box tied to its paw. He asked me to marry him, I said yes, and 13 years later on the 4th of July, we did get married. We have been together for 19 years now.
Comment by Marilyn Wons on 23 June 2008:
My now husband said “I guess you want to get married don’t you?” I said “yes”. That was thirty five years ago, and we are still happily married!
Comment by Kristen Murray on 23 June 2008:
Over 20 years ago, my husband and I had our first “official” date on Valentine’s Day. Two months later, he “proposed” and I accepted. Still it took him 10 years to convince me to finally go through with it. 10 years after that, he re-proposed, properly this time on bended knee, I accepted again and on the 20th anniversary of his first proposal and 10th anniversary of our “official” wedding ceremony, we got married for the 4th time to each other in the Catholic church (1st time Justice of Peace, 2nd time US prebyterian church, 3rd time UK anglican church).
Comment by Maureen on 23 June 2008:
My husband proposed on Valentine’s day. He gave me a bag and asked me to open it. I opend the bag and there was a box in it. I opend the box and there was a beautiful sapphire and diamond ring. I know that I said “Is this what I think it is?” He replied “well will you?”
We are coming on 10 yrs married this November.
Comment by Kimberly on 23 June 2008:
I suppose you could say that I was never ‘really’ proposed too. Mine was somewhat uneventful. He just didn’t do the one knee thing, or plan a special date or event. Actually, my mother-n-law kinda ruined it - telling me when he had picked up the ring - so I knew it was coming. We were watching TV and he reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring - and said - what do you think, time to wear this? See, we had picked it out many months before - and placed the ring on a lay-away plan. Like so many couples today - we lived together for almost 9 years before we ‘both agreed’ it was time to actually tie the knott. I suppose you could say, I enjoy living vicariously thru all the other wonderful stories. Oh to be young again
Comment by Kathy Scott on 23 June 2008:

Comment by Anne on 23 June 2008:
My engagement story is, I think, truly unique!
I was a single mom with a 5 yr old daughter when I met a prince of a man. We were together from the day we met.
I guess none of us really wanted to make dinner one night, so we decided we would have weiners and beans!!
With a spoonful headed towards my mouth, he said, “So, do you want to get married?”. I of course said yes.
The weiner and beans proposal I call it! 18 years ago this August we were married!
Comment by susan vrney on 23 June 2008:
was asked to be married
Comment by Roseann Kies on 23 June 2008:
My husband asked me if I wanted a topaz ring or a diamond ring. I said “Does that mean you want to spend the rest of your life with me?”. “Then I’ll take the diamond ring”.
The rest is history (15 years later).
Comment by Angie P on 23 June 2008:
My husband never really proposed. We were friends for awhile before we dated. After our first real date, we both kind of just knew that we were going to get married. That was seventeen years ago.
Comment by Arlenee on 23 June 2008:
Would love this. Thanks.
Comment by Tonya Keener on 23 June 2008:
I want to see Definately Maybe so bad it hurts and so does my daughter but as a single mom I can’t afford to go buy it.
Comment by Shirley Younger on 23 June 2008:
Don’t remember my proposal — it was over 40 years ago and I’m still happily married
Comment by Catherine copeland on 23 June 2008:
i know they say engineers aren’t romantic. really i would have said that until my husband went to all the trouble for proposing to me in such a romantic way. He drove me to the beach where his friends had set up a folding table with a white table cloth and candles. there were candles leading us down the bath to the table. After a few very loud coughs, our song drifted down the tunes from a boom box. He got down on bended knee and asked me to be his wife. i haven’t regretted my decision.

I was proposed to in Egypt by my boyfriend who had undergone numerous surgeries (he had an accident there on business and I traveled to be with him, we ended up staying there for years to rehabilitate). It was so romantic, and most importantly, so sincere. I knew that he loved me more than anything in the world, and thats what mattered most.
Comment by Amanda Kinder on 23 June 2008:
Last year, I ended up in the hospital because I was very sick with food poisoning. He was there the full 3 weeks I was there, except for one day- the day I was going home!! As my mom and I pull into the driveway, I see a piece of paper with an arrow on it. So, I follow the arrows into the dining room, where there is a present a balloon that says “Get well Soon.” He comes out of the kitchen and gets on one knee and asks me to marry him. I couldn’t say no…. so I said yes! We are getting married this October!!
Comment by Linda Ellis on 23 June 2008:

Comment by Julia on 23 June 2008:
One proposal was, “Babe, I want to marry you, okay? He knew I hate being called “Babe.” I not only said, “No,” I said, “Out!” I lucked out of that one.
Comment by Nora Scott-Platt on 23 June 2008:
Let’s see my husband told me that he was going to do things to make me love him so I would marry him, as I told him I absolutely was not looking for any type relationship. With that he left and called me and said okay, okay then I want a fling with you. Which I burst out laughing and said I don’t have flings..

My boyfriend (then) and I were out shopping He’d lost my high school ring and said, “Let’s go see how much it would take to replace your ring” I said no as I was in my junior year of college and wasn’t worried about a high school ring. Anyway he talked me into it. The ring was 4 times more than I’d paid for my original ring and the sales woman said “is there anything else I can show you today?” I said “no” and he said “Yes, we’d like to see some engagement rings and wedding sets, please” I looked at him wide eyed and said “we would?” He squeezed my hand and said “yes we would………wouldn’t we?” and we bought our rings that day. I teased him that on our 25th anniversary he would have to actually ask me to marry him…..and he did. On August the 12th of this year we will celebrate our 30th anniversary

Proposal story - not one that I share often, but I guess it’s worth it. we had actually split up before my birthday, that wednesday he proposed.. but said i no b.c I wanted this wkend to be just MINE. well it didn’t go the way I had wanted it to(another story). So we got back together and then Valentine’s of 05, He just proposed to me. It wasn’t really much of anything b.c we had chosen the rings out together. This first ring was nice.. but i didn’t get a good look at it. but we’ve been married two years, together for 5.5years.

My husband proposed to me on one knee in our little bedroom right after he injured his back at work. I said yes, and he still to this day (15 years later) says he knows I must love him because I committed myself to him for the rest of my life, when he was at his lowest point with no job and an injury.
Comment by Shannon B. (8 comments.) on 24 June 2008:
My husband and I were living about 3 hours apart when he proposed. He drove to my apartment without me knowing (my roommate knew though), spread rose petals from the outside entrance to the inside door, and when I opened the door he got down on one knee to propose. He had cooked a delicious meal and planned for everything. It was amazing!

I married my wife twelve years to the day after our first date. After we dated about a year, she gave me an ultimatum to go steady. We broke up and when we got back together, I said I was wrong but she said not to ask her, and she meant it. Then I got a job offer in another state, and she had to decide whether she was coming. The shoe was on the other foot–and she married me. We have been happy almost four years married.

Comment by Belinda A. (7 comments.) on 26 June 2008:
We’d discussed marriage, it was seen as the inevitable conclusion to our relationship - but in the future. Then necessity prompted us to put wedding plans on the fast track.
Suddenly we had a date and it was 10 days away! We were swept up in a whirl of wedding plannning, any hopes of a romantic proposal out the window.
Then it was Saturday, one week before our big day, I was shopping for a wedding dress when my husband-to-be called and suggested dinner that evening. I agreed, despite being worn out.
That was the first surprise. He took me to a beautiful, romantic restaurant. We dined by candlelight and I wondered if he might slip in a last-minute proposal. We ate, drank, lingered a while, but there was no proposal. Instead he glanced at his watch and suggested we head home and catch the game on TV. Oh well.
Halfway home he made a wrong turn, mumbling something about picking up imported beer at a specialty store. I was silent, we’d cut the evening short for this game and the pursuit of imported beer!
Distracted, I took a moment to realize we’d stopped on a lonely road beside the city lake. “What’s wrong?” I asked anxiously. He ignored me and jumped out of the car. I was startled to see a man wearing a bizarre straw hat emerge from behind the bushes. I looked beyond the bushes and, moored just feet away from me, was an authentic Venetian gondola. Did I mention we’re in Texas?
My husband-to-be loaded me onto the gondola and somewhere out there on the lake under the light of a beautiful moon, with a bottle of red wine and our gondolier serenading us, he slipped a ring onto my finger and asked if I’d marry him. I said yes!

We met during training. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was for him to make me laugh. We became best friends and after only six weeks of friendship he wrote me a love letter, several in fact over the next two weeks, close to hundred btw the two of us. The last came just eight weeks after meeting and with his grandfathers ring and his lucky rock, and note asking to be his forever lucky charm. We have been married 7 years and together 8. we have two boys and he can still make me laugh no matter how mad i get

My husband invited me to the local bridal show–before we were married! When the first vendor handed me a brochure, she asked if I was the bride, and I just looked at my then-boyfriend. He got down on his knees and asked me–in front of a whole herd of mothers and daughters! It was sweet, and very romantic.
We were happily married for almost 17 years before he passed away. Thinking of him still makes me smile and get silly

No fancy proposal story here. We were teenagers and we had a rare afternoon off together and we were sitting on the couch watching baseball. One of us asked how do you go about getting married and we decided to drive over and get a marriage license. The following Monday the news hit the papers (who knew they published these things? Not us!) and the phones started ringing. My parents were livid. So like any good teenagers we got married that week, it’s been fourteen years and four kids since that day!

After opening all of our Christmas presents I was in the other room cleaning up and making breakfast, my now hubby hollared and said, there’s something else in the back. I came in and he handed me the present (the ring) on one knee. When he asked “Will you marry me?” I stood shaking and crying.

My husband told me I was the girl he was going to marry on our second date. We were married two months later and are coming up on our 16th anniversary.

I am a vendor and proposed over an ACME supermarkets PA system to my wife (who is an employee there). I proceeded to get down on one knee in the busy store and give her the ring.

On the 5th anniversary of our first date, hid in her apartment closet until she got home from work; she hopped in the shower, I got out with a dozen roses with ring within the box, turned on “When a Man Loves a Woman” on the stereo and surprised her in the shower. 15 years later and still very happily married!

We were sitting around taking, when he starting saying stuff about when we are married. I got this look on my face and he said What? and I said you haven’t ask me. Well he said you know I do, so will you? Yes, Of Course

Mine was not a romantic proposal. I was going to college and my future husband was in the Navy. We had talked about marriage in a general way. One day he told me that we either get married now (within the next couple of months) or just forget it. So we got married 2 months later.
Comment by Helen on 28 June 2008:
My husband didn’t actually propose as much as he was forced to take the next step in our relationship. We ran into some friends who had announced their engagement and they asked when we were going to get married. So my husband answered “Um, sometime next year.” And that was it, we started planning our wedding from that moment and married the following year.

I was previously married and my ex husband proposed to me in a way that is inappropriate for a general audience… and likewise that marriage didnt last.. go figure. I should have known better when he didn’t even ever give me a ring.. *grubmle*

Didn’t pan out but it was still thoughtful and well meaning- My proposal (ring) came in a bag of my favorite potato chips along with the newspaper of the day

Back 50 years ago before it had been done to death, he put the ring in the bottom of a champagne cocktail. A real surprise to me when my eye caught that bit of sparkle in the bottom of the glass. I loved it.

My husband never porposed. He took me to a jewelry store and told me to pick out a ring set. I thought it was a joke. We have been married for 43 years so it worked out.
