I'm Michelle Cox -- the owner of Lipstick to Crayons. I’m also a Mom to three kids (a teen, tween and toddler), a professional writer (www.michellemcox.com) and a blogger (www.fromthemom.com). And I love to save money (and help you do the same) via frugal deals and steals, coupons and other thrifty practices. My freelance writing business allows me to enjoy the great balance of being a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom, while also making time for blogging, running (ran the Chicago Marathon twice) some amateur photography and scrapbooking. I’m a St. Louis native, although I have lived outside of the city and the state. A few of my passions are amateur photography, scrapbooking and attending kids' sporting events.

Tell me now!

A new resource has been developed to help parents talk with their children about sex. Geared for parents of 8-12 year olds, “Tell Me, Now!” is an entertaining multi-media presentation that provides parents and children with an enjoyable way to have an informed, meaningful and medically accurate discussion about issues pertaining to a young person’s sexual health.

The Lipstick to Crayons sisters had a chance to review the “Tell Me, Now!” DVD and giggled like little girls for 20 minutes. I guess we never really grow up when it comes to talking about sex.

The DVD presents age-appropriate information about puberty and sex to 3rd to 5th graders in an entertaining and fast-paced format. Designed to be viewed with your child, the DVD features Super Smart Doctors, the superheroes of sexual health. They come to the rescue with answers to many of the important questions kids ask at this age.

Despite the bad acting and silly humor we could see how kids would enjoy it. The information is medically accurate and waiting to have sex until marriage was discussed. Whether or not you believe in telling your kids to wait until marriage or not the parent actors encouraged their children to come to them if they have questions about sex. STD’s were also briefly mentioned.

The “Tell Me, Now!” is a great start for parents who are uncomfortable about talking to their kids about sex but we found the price a bit steep at $39.99. The Educational Guide and Activity Book can be purchased for an additional $10 but it really should be included in the price.
