Wayside School

I remember my kids reading the Wayside School books when they were younger. They would talk to each other in the back seat of the car laughing over the antics and trying to explain to me the characters.
This is what I have learned:
- Bebe is the schools fastest artist.
- John only reads upside down (Not a skill I suggest telling your kid is cool, they will try it, and it’s weird)
- Sammy the new kid, who is a rat?
- Leslie who doesn’t know what to do with her toes (See, now you want to read it don’t you?)
- Mrs. Gorf who will turn you into an apple if you are late.
The school was built by mere accidental miscommunication, thirty stories, one classroom per story. Yes, it’s a huge building and between the flighty janitor, the money hungry principal and all the students it creates an interesting story.
It’s a fun book to read and it will grant you a few chuckles even as an adult. I would suggest this to be a fun after school book for your child to read during snack time, or on the weekends when it’s time for everyone to relax. It will definitely keep their attention for a while.
The Wayside School video series is cute, more entertaining for a much younger audience than the books. So if you get both, you will keep your full range of elementary school kids happy.
