Elf on the Shelf
Last year we started the cutest tradition in our home with the Elf on the Shelf Gift Set. The gift set includes an elf doll and book based on the tradition Carol Aebersold began with her family in the 1970s. This cleverly rhymed children’s book explains that Santa knows who is naughty and/or nice because he sends a scout elf to every home. The elf watches the children’s behavior and reports it back to Santa each night. By morning the elf returns to its assigned home and hides in a different location, allowing the children to play a delightful hide-and-seek game.
My children named our elf Charlie and getting up for school was not a problem because they were so excited to find where Charlie was hiding. When they were naughty all I had to do was remind them that Charlie was watching and they’d instantly start behaving.
Typically the Elf on the Shelf makes his appearance around Thanksgiving but my children are already asking when he’ll be arriving. I just may have to bring out my magical babysitter out a little early this year.

I’ve never heard of this, but it sounds so neat. I’m going to remember it maybe for gifts for moms with toddlers. It would make a great family present.
