Kidzui: The internet for kids

I’ve been experimenting with different internet safety programs this past year and have finally found one I’m very happy with. My biggest beef with some of the software out there is dealing with the bugs, difficult logins, and under or over sensitive filters.

My eight and ten year old daughters have been using Kidzui since before the holidays. KidZui is a kid’s browser with access to over a million websites, pictures and videos reviewed by teachers and parents. Over 200 trained teachers and parents have reviewed and approved sites, videos and pictures using a rigorous content selection process. And their reviewers don’t just approve content, they categorize it for age-appropriateness and by topic. What makes this so successful is kids can still access sites like Youtube but will only be able to view parent/teacher approved videos. With other software I’ve used there wasn’t any way to filter Youtube content. I could either “allow” or “block”. My kids love watching Youtube videos and with Kidzui they can safely search videos and I have peice of mind that they aren’t stumbling onto something inappropriate.

So how does Kidzui work? It’s quite easy actually. Just head over to www.kidzui.com get the download then set up a screen name and password. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

When ready to browse just click the big “K” on your desktop. If you are a Firefox user like me then you can download the Firefox add-on. What I love about this add-on is that I can lockdown the computer so my kids can’t leave Kidzui or open other applications.

The parental controls were easy to set up and I love the weekly emails about what my kids are doing on the internet.

My daughters love Kidzui because they can make their own avatars and safely connect with friends. They also love the ability to rate and tag content. There’s even a homework helper!

Kidzui is free to download but a paid memebership is available. Visit here to compare the free and paid memberships.

The only issue we ran into was that some of the videos were slow to load. Otherwise we are very happy with Kidzui. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
