Temperature taking just got easier GIVEAWAY
I received an Exergen TemporalScanner for review and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Two of my children had picked up a nasty bug at school that was causing them to run high fevers.
Taking my children’s temperature has always been a daunting task for me. My son has sensory issues so a thermometer under the tongue makes him gag and he finds it painful to hold a thermometer under his arm. My other children have a hard time staying still long enough to get an accurate temperature and the the thermometer strip that can be pressed against the forehead just isn’t reliable. I’ve never bothered to buy an ear thermometer since their unreliability wasn’t worth the hefty price.
This past year my children’s pediatrician began using the TemporalScanner and we were in awe of the magical wand that with one swipe across the forehead gave an immediate temperature reading. I would have guessed such an amazing gadget would be very pricey but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that consumers can buy one for around $30.
Here is the product information from the Exergen website:
The TemporalScanner Thermometer is a totally non-invasive system with advanced infrared technology providing maximum ease of use with quick, consistently accurate measurements. Advanced, patented technology measures temperatures with a gentle stroke across the forehead. The TemporalScanner Thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared to rectal thermometers and temperature sensors inserted in the heart during course of patient treatment and accepted for use in major hospitals, making it the ideal thermometer for use with newborns, infants, children or adults.
The TemporalScanner has patented software, providing arterial heat balance. This unique process determines temperature by accurately measuring the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling (warming) caused by heat loss (gain) to the environment.
The TemporalScanner Thermometer is so easy to use. My children actually welcomed having me wield its magical powers on them with a quick, painless, and non-invasive swipe. I also like that I can take their temperature without having to wake them. The only issue I had with it was remembering to take the cap off. I thought I had gotten a defective unit when I kept getting temperatures not compatible with life. Thank goodness for my eight year old who figured out that the clear plastic cap should be removed before taking her temperature.
I highly recommend the Exergen TemporalScanner and have one to give away to one lucky reader.

I would love to win this item since I am the mom of four kids. I first saw this cool thermometer during a trip to the doctor’s office for a routine check-up. It works so well and I would love to own one! We currently use an ear thermometer that isn’t very accurate. I usually take the temperature three times and get three different readings (usually differing by a degree or more) and then end up averaging the readings into one (what a pain!) With a new baby in our house, I know I will have many more years of usage out of a thermometer and this one is the best out on the market right now, I think! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity and good luck to all.

I first saw these when my Dad was in the ICU during chemo. What an incredible thing! It was one of the only health checks they could do that didn’t involve poking, prodding, or electric monitors. I’d love to have one!

These look quite useful — you’ve just about talked me into buying one, next time we have some “discretionary income” (ah, bitter-sweet memories). That “sensory issues” thing CAN sure enough get in the way of taking temperatures — and let’s not even THINK about haircuts…
#220 brian on March 31, 2009:
