And I love to save money (and help you do the same) via frugal deals and steals, coupons and other thrifty practices. My freelance writing business allows me to enjoy the great balance of being a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom, while also making time for blogging, running (ran the Chicago Marathon twice) some amateur photography and scrapbooking. I’m a St. Louis native, although I have lived outside of the city and the state. A few of my passions are amateur photography, scrapbooking and attending kids' sporting events.

Labor Pains

No, this isn’t a post full of horror stories about labor, so if you’re an expectant Mom, it’s safe to continue reading. (I personally think that sharing exaggerated stories of labor and delivery with  expectant Moms is an awful thing to do). This is a post about the movie Labor Pains, being released on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The movie is a quirky romantic comedy starring Lindsay Lohan, Cheryl Hines and Chris Parnell.

In the movie, Thea (Lindsay Lohan) is stuck in a dead-end job that she can’t afford to lose. To stay employed, she fakes a pregnancy, and now she’s milking her one big lie for everything it’s worth. But faking this pregnancy makes going to make giving birth look easy. Chris Parnell, Cheryl Hines and Aaron Yoo (Friday the 13th, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, The Wackness) also star in this  comedy.

I watched the movie with my kids (ages 14 and 11) and it was cute and entertaining.  In the end, it delivers some sweet messages about friendship, love, loyalty and, yes, motherhood.  My 11-year-old son thought the movie was okay, and my 14-year-old daughter really enjoyed it. It’s rated PG-13 and has a suggested retail price of $28.98 for DVD, $29.98 for Blu-ray.
