Love My Bumpit™
No – this is not a post about a new song by Black Eyed Peas. It’s about my new favorite hair accessory. Well, maybe “accessory” isn’t exactly the right word, because when I think of an accessory, I think of something you see. Bumpits™ aren’t meant to be seen — at least not exactly.
Bumpits™ are hair volumizing inserts that do exactly that — bump it. And they really work. You may have seen their ads on television. I began seeing the ads about a year ago and I didn’t really pay much attention. But I’ve got a woman whose hair I always admire. (My teen daughter says I stalk this woman, but really, I don’t. So I like her hair. So I friended her on Facebook. So I copied a picture of her from her FB page and sent it to my phone so that I always have it with me when I go to my stylist. I hardly think that’s stalking).
But back to the Bumpits.™ I began wondering how this woman got her hair to look so full on the crown of her head. And then it came to me — it was those Bumpits™ I’d been seeing on TV.
A few days later, I found the Bumpit™ among the “As seen on TV” products at my local Walgreens. And instead of the $19.99 plus shipping and handling pricetag on the Bumpit ™ official Web site, they were just $9.99. Sure, you don’t get as many Bumpits™ for $9.99, but how many do you really need? And you still get the handy-dandy styling guide, which I have found to be very helpful and full of cute Bumpit™ style ideas.
So here’s what I like about the Bumpit™:
- When I wear my hair up in a clip, it adds some height to my style. I feel like that makes my “pinned up hair” look a little more fashionable and little less like “Frazzled Mom didn’t have time to fix her hair.”
- Bumpits™ are easy to use.
- Bumpits™ come with a helpful style guide with easy-to-follow directions.
- Bumpits™ stay in place. I’ve worn my all day while chasing my toddler and it didn’t fall out or slip.
- When smoothing/straightening my hair with a flat iron, my Bumpit™ gives some height to my style and dresses it up just a little.
- Bumpits™ come in several colors to match your natural hair color, thus making them blend even better.
- Bumpits™ are affordable, especially when purchased in person at Walgreens.
- Bumpits™ make me look more like the woman I stalk admire.
And here are the cons:
- One of my friends tried the Bumpit™ and her hair was too fine, so the insert showed. (But, she was able to return it to Walgreens for a full refund).
- You do have to tease your hair a little to get the Bumpit™ securely in place.
- Wearing a Bumpit™ can be painful if you forget you’re wearing it and try to shove a ball cap on your head.
- My teenage daughter says my Bumpit™ looks ridiculous. She cannot imagine why I would want my hair to look the “poofy” and she says you should never buy anything that is advertised in a commercial that lasts longer than 30 seconds. Plus, she says I should stop stalking the woman whose hair I admire.

I’m so glad it worked for you. You look adorable. I treated myself to a haircut yesterday, so I’m feeling better about being one of your cons!
The one with the fine hair…

hi, i saw that you got your bumpit to work… i tryed it over and over again and i just cant seem to geet it, can you help?

I think a few of the keys to using it are: 1) teasing your hair just a little before putting the Bumpit in place and 2) pushing the Bumpit snugly against the hair you’re going to use to cover it. Did you get the little instruction manual with yours? I found that to be pretty helpful. Or maybe go to the Web site.

Gotta go to Walgreens. I searched WalMart for it and couldn’t find it. It would be great for vacation pictures!
