I'm Michelle Cox -- the owner of Lipstick to Crayons. I’m also a Mom to three kids (a teen, tween and toddler), a professional writer (www.michellemcox.com) and a blogger (www.fromthemom.com). And I love to save money (and help you do the same) via frugal deals and steals, coupons and other thrifty practices. My freelance writing business allows me to enjoy the great balance of being a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom, while also making time for blogging, running (ran the Chicago Marathon twice) some amateur photography and scrapbooking. I’m a St. Louis native, although I have lived outside of the city and the state. A few of my passions are amateur photography, scrapbooking and attending kids' sporting events.

Make a Free DVD with Pictures & Video

feature photo

YesDVD Smileshow – an affordable DVD service that lets you turn your photos and video clips into a DVD for you to view on your television —  is offering readers of Lipstick to Crayons the chance to create a free DVD.

That means you can upload your digital pictures and video to YesVideo, and the site walks you through a series of easy click-and-pick steps to create a custom DVD complete with panning effects, music and a theme. I just made one myself that included more than 70 pictures from the spring and summer, as well as three of my favorite videos.  I chose the children theme, picked the  paradise music and added a title page. And it didn’t cost me a thing with the coupon code I’m going to provide you below! My DVD is being processed and will arrive in the mail in about a week, as which point I can play it on my computer or on my television.

So why is it free right now? Well,  YesVideo, a  leader in video transfer services, recently released the beta version of YesDVD Smileshow. Since the site is in beta, YesDVD Smileshow is  anxious to get as many eyes on the product as possible. After receiving the Smileshow, a short survey will be sent to garner your feedback.

This is a perfect way to share digital photos and videos with friends and relatives, and even when it’s not free, it is an affordable option for easily preserving and enjoying memories.

To use the service, just go to the smileshowdvd site  and upload your photos and videos. (I found it easier to make a list of the photos and videos I wanted to use before starting my project.)  Once you complete your upload, you can add a title page, rearrange pictures and select music. YesVideo’s advanced technology recognizes faces in a photo, and the software automatically creates zooming and panning effects to highlight loved ones during the slideshow.

The base price includes 50 photos and is only $4.99; $.05 per additional photo, $0.50 per minute of video and $1.99 for shipping. But this coupon code is good for a video costing up to $15. That’s a LOT of pictures and video. My project came in under that price, so I was able to add a couple of copies to my order and shipping was even covered in the $15 cost.

So give it a try. Here’s your coupon code, which you enter in the “coupon code” spot during the ordering process:

LIPSTICK

The code is only good until Aug. 31, so get busy! (Think “early Christmas shopping.” This DVD would make a great present of Grandma and Grandpa!).

Please leave a comment and let me know if you decided to make a DVD.
