At The Design File blog, we love retailers who make it easier to get just the right accessory you need for your home. That’s why I was so excited to see that the fabulous Jonathan Adler has added a “Design Your Own” section to his retail website, giving customers the opportunity to get just the pillows or rugs they need in the perfect color schemes and styles.

“Unleash your inner Adler,” the site challenges. “Create a masterpiece.”

You pick your product (a rug, pillow or tote), choose from among several pre-made designs, and finally select your colors. You can see a shot above of the screen you use to make your choices.

As I designed it, the above rug would be 6 feet wide by 9 feet long with four colors. It would cost $1,620.

For the same price, you could change up the colors and create an entirely different look. Customize. Experiment. The site is really fun to use.

Check out the four pillows at left that I was able to create with the design program. My favorite is the orange and gold one in the upper left, but I can really picture the pink one below right in a little girl’s room.

These are not exactly inexpensive pillows, but who can beat a piece made specifically for your room?

That pillow above left is the Palm Beach pattern. I made it as a 24-inch square pillow in hand loomed wool. It would cost $198.

The pillow in the upper right is a monogram pillow with the Nixon border.

It’s 16 inches square and made from cotton. It would cost $98.
