Don’t settle for a dull Jack-O-Lantern

Bhg trick or treat pumpkin On my block, Halloween is a big holiday. Most of my neighbors go a little crazy with lights, over-sized spiders, witches and all sorts of spooky things. As a result, we get hundreds of trick-or-treaters and we actually gave away some 16 pounds of candy last year.

For most people, though, Halloween decor is mostly about carving pumpkins. Still, you don’t have to settle for a tame jack-o-lantern!

DIY photos-2 Better Homes & Garden can help you with some ideas. At the BHG web site, you can find free printable stencils that you can print and transfer to your pumpkin for carving.

The site has an entire gallery focused on dog breeds (see below) and one on celebrities, including the President Obama and Sarah Palin stencils at left. (You can even see a video of dogs and their corresponding stencils here.)

Bhg beagle pumpkin stencil-1There’s even a virtual carve-a-pumpkin site. Select from among several faux pumpkins and carve a scary face. Select one of three ways to carve. Pick a scene. Add a message. You can even print a free stencil of your creation.

Good luck and have fun. There’s no reason for a dull jack-o-lantern this year!
