Design trend: Faux animal trophies bring life to walls
I got a good laugh last week when Jon McLaughlin, my favorite singer-songwriter, updated his Facebook status with this: Hanging a deer head on my wall.
Not surprisingly, some of his fans weren’t that happy. “Eww that’s evil n sad!” one wrote.
But just a day later, Jon set all at ease when he posted, “The deer is ceramic – yeah, apparently that’s in now.” No doubt.
Whether or not you agree with hunting, it’s hard not to love the faux animal “trophies” that are popping up everywhere.
They’re a great way to add a little whimsy to a room. (Just ask Jon.)
I especially like the ones that are so obviously fakes, like this White Lacquer Moose Head (at right) from Z Gallerie for $199.95.
I also love the cardboard rhino trophy at left. The “Robbie” is designed and manufactured by Cardboard Safari™ and is a great quirky choice for $52.
But there are also options that are more realistic. Check out the faux Ox Skull from What on Earth in the upper right corner of the collage below. Its horns are nearly three feet wide and are cast from an antique original. It’s on sale now for $43.
