I'm Michelle Cox -- the owner of Lipstick to Crayons. I’m also a Mom to three kids (a teen, tween and toddler), a professional writer (www.michellemcox.com) and a blogger (www.fromthemom.com). And I love to save money (and help you do the same) via frugal deals and steals, coupons and other thrifty practices. My freelance writing business allows me to enjoy the great balance of being a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom, while also making time for blogging, running (ran the Chicago Marathon twice) some amateur photography and scrapbooking. I’m a St. Louis native, although I have lived outside of the city and the state. A few of my passions are amateur photography, scrapbooking and attending kids' sporting events.

Ideas for Stocking Stuffers

With just 10 days until Christmas, it’s probably time to think about the smaller details of preparing for the holiday. If you’re like me, that means stocking stuffers. Here are a few ideas that I like:

Socks

These KN Karen Neuburger Chenille Socks  for $15 are the perfect height, completely covering the ankle without sticking out of the top of a boot! And, they are super soft, with rubber grippers on the soles to make sure you aren’t slipping and sliding in and out of the rain and snow or on cold hardwood or tile floors this winter.

Books

“The Magician’s Elephant” by Kate DiCamillo is a haunting fable about trusting the unexepected and making the extraordinary come true. When a fortune teller’s tent appears in the market square of the city of Baltese, orphan Peter Augustus Duchene knows the questions that he needs to ask: Does his sister still live? And if so, how can he find her? The fortuneteller’s mysterious answer? An elephant will lead him there. The  The Magician’s Elephant is available here for $9.93.

“Ho, Ho, Ho, Tucker” by Leslie McGuirk is a witty tale for ages 2-5 about a charismatic little terrier named Tucker. My toddler LOVED the ”Trick or Treat Tucker” book and is equally delighted with this package, which includes a book, video, audio and activity pack. You can buy it here for $10.19.

“Suzy Goose and the Christmas Star” by Petr Horacek is a story for ages 3 and up about a tenacious goose who aims to top her Christmas tree with a star from the sky. It’s a sweet story that I’ve enjoyed sharing with my kids this holiday season. You can buy it here for  $10.87.

Movies

The Original Christmas Classics Limited Keepsake Edition is a set of seven holiday favorites that I grew up watching. It includes: Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Little Drummer Boy, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, Cricket on theHearth and Frosty Returns, plus a bonsu holiday music CD! I remember anxiously awaiting these delightful animated movies each year when I was a child, and now my youngest is enjoying the same stories all over again. This set would make a great gift for any grandparent who might want to start a holiday tradition of entertaining the youngsters each year, or a family that has young children. You can buy the set of digitally remastered DVD’s  here for $19.99.

VeggieTales has released a new DVD this season called Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving. The DVD features all-stars Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber and tells the story of Saint Nicholas, the world’s greatest giver. It also introduces Nicky the Pepper, the first new VeggieTales character in five years. Bonus features include an original new song by critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Matthew West, “Give This Christmas Away,” performed by West and Grammy Award-winning artist Amy Grant. My toddler adores this Christian-themed movie. It is available here for $9.99.
