Sick Day Guidelines and Triaminic Giveaway
As Moms, we KNOW when our kids aren’t feeling well. We don’t need no stinking thermometer or stethoscope to tell us if our kids are officially “under the weather.” But, sometimes it’s hard to tell if they’re sick enough to stay home from school, or playgroup or the gym nursery. I mean, if we kept our kids isolated every time their noses run or they cough, we’d never get out, right?
That’s why Triaminic (maker of children’s over-the-counter cold and flu symptom medication) recently partnered with the National Association of School Nurses to create “Sick Day Guidelines: Making the Right Call When Your Child Has a Cold.”
You can read the Sick Day Guidelines here. You also can get some tips on how to prevent colds, how to fend off the flu and how to make your child more comfortable when she is sick.
Triaminic Thin Strips are one way to relieve some of the symptoms of a child’s cough or cold. These single-use products provide a pre-measured dose of medicine that dissolves quickly on the tongue, so parents know their children are receiving the recommended amount for their age.
**Remember, when dispensing medication to children, always read and follow medicine labels exactly to ensure that the child receives the right dosage. The makers of children’s cough and cold medicines are voluntarily changing the product labeling to read “Do not use for children under 4“.
Triaminic Thin Strips come in five varieties – Night time Cold & Cough, Long Acting Cough, Cough & Runny Nose, Day Time Cold & Cough, Cold with Stuffy Nose and Allergy.
Triaminic is offering a giveaway pack which includes four boxes of thin strips (each valued at approximately $6) to one lucky Lipstick to Crayons reader. You can enter this giveaway below. The company also is offering my readers a coupon for $1.50 off any Triaminic product. You can get the coupon here:

Our best tip is lots of rest. Orange juice, a humidifier, soft tissues, plus snuggles and movies always seem to help around here too!

When my daughters get a bad cold with lots of nose-blowing, I put a little vaseline on their nose to help soothe the irritation from the tissue. Thanks for the review and giveaway!

Love their tips –
They recommend washing the bedding once the child felt better and I’d change that pillowcase at least daily. I feel anyone sick could just as well be laying their head on used tissue. That pillowcase gets changed at least daily and thrown in the washer asap to minimize spreading of germs within family. The sheets depend if they have been feverish or flu-sick. Clean bedding is both comforting and hygienic

When my children have a cold I put vicks on the bottom of their feet and put two pairs of thick socks on them and let that bring the cold out!

We use a humidifier when there is coughing and we encourage LOTS of sleep. Ice chips when their throats hurt or there is a fever.
Thanks

I give my kids fresh oranges cut up and let them suck on them – also i like to give them warm baths and turn the shower on (our tubs and showers are seperate) to let them breathe in the steam – i also like to add a few drops of ecalyptus essential oil to the bath tub and rub it on their feet after the bath

When my kids get sick I make them rest and drink OJ. They use Puffs with lotion to help their noses not become as irritated. They also get to watch lots of movies.

Like someone else posted, I like to put Vick’s (or some other brand) on the bottom of my daughter’s feet… she also likes it rubbed on her chest when she has a cold.
#31 Michele P. on January 5, 2010:
my daughter often gets headaches when she is sick…I like to keep her in a dark, quiet room with a damp facecloth on her forehead. That seems to help with the headache, we also keep ginger ale and saltines on hand for emergencies and tummy upsets.
