I'm Michelle Cox -- the owner of Lipstick to Crayons. I’m also a Mom to three kids (a teen, tween and toddler), a professional writer (www.michellemcox.com) and a blogger (www.fromthemom.com). And I love to save money (and help you do the same) via frugal deals and steals, coupons and other thrifty practices. My freelance writing business allows me to enjoy the great balance of being a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom, while also making time for blogging, running (ran the Chicago Marathon twice) some amateur photography and scrapbooking. I’m a St. Louis native, although I have lived outside of the city and the state. A few of my passions are amateur photography, scrapbooking and attending kids' sporting events.

Fun Shopping Event that Helps Kids, Too

feature photo

Want to get your hands on a designer handbag and help kids in foster care at the same time? Then consider attending the annual “Old Bags” event in St. Louis. Old Bags™ is an annual fundraiser held on the fourth Tuesday of April by the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition.  The party features a silent auction of new and like-new designer handbags.  All proceeds are used to recruit foster and adoptive families for the over 4,000 children in Metro St. Louis who are waiting for a “forever family.”

This year’s event is set for April 27 at the Living World in the St. Louis Zoo.

The Old Bags™ party will feature a silent auction of new and like-new designer handbags. The party is scheduled from 6 to 9:00 p.m. and is a fun girls’ night out that offers appetizers, drinks and hundreds of designer bags, like Gucci, Chanel, Burberry, Kate Spade, Cole Haan, Coach, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Fendi and more, to bid on in a silent auction.  Raffle tickets also are sold for a chance to win a new designer handbag!

Volunteers spend months planning for the Old Bags™ party. The proceeds from Old Bags™ directly support the Coalition’s Extreme Recruitment™ program, recently featured in the New York Times. Extreme Recruitment finds forever families for children who have spent way too long in foster care.  The average “cost” for finding a foster child a “forever” home is about $5,000. That is a small amount of money in exchange for a child finding a home and a family with whom to share his/her life.

How To Donate Purses

Want to help Old Bags™ 2010 be the best yet? Donate new and/or gently used handbags! Clean out your closet, ask your friends, or team with co-workers to purchase a great designer bag to donate! All donations are tax-deductible.
