Red spices up new HGTV green home

2010 HGTV Green Home kitchen with red counter I love the prominence of spicy red in the new HGTV Green Home.

Used on a kitchen countertop (see at right), a four-poster bed and upholstered furnishings, the color really unifies the house. I just wish there had been a touch of it up in the third floor “tower room” too.

This kitchen is beautiful. I love the combination of the simple white cabinets and dark wood floor with the shock of the red countertop on the island.

It’s very cool.

But the red doesn’t stop there. It’s also used on the upholstered pieces in the living room, which is open to the kitchen.

Red is also the accent color in this otherwise blue sitting room on the home’s second floor:

Finally, here’s my favorite room in the house — the master bedroom with this magnificent red, four-poster bed. I love the bluish-gray walls, the black and white chair and the cool, striped pendant lights. It’s really fun!

There are lots more photos at the HGTV Green Home main site. There, you can check out the whole house, including the spaces with and without red!

But first, watch the video below, which gives you a quick 90-second tour of the house. It goes fast and it’s a little hard to see everything. But it gives you a great overall impression of the house — and the importance of red to the decor!

  1. I love the bold splashes of red! I never thought it would look very good in a kitchen, but it really makes a huge difference in the kitchen picture!
