Me: “Okay, honey. I know you think my blog is a fun little project. Now you get to help.”

Husband: “Great, honey. How can I help?”

Me: “Wear this new underwear a few times and let me know what you think. But please, let me wash them in between tries.” (Here’s an underwear factoid: Married men change their underwear twice as often as single men. Can I get an Amen?!!)

Husband: “Very funny. And no, I don’t do boxers. I like my tighty whities.”

Me: “These are very nice. They feel like great, no seams and they won’t roll up. Aren’t you tired of saggy . . . uh, underwear?”

Then I held them up a little suggestively, and he succumbed my wiley ways.

The first time he wore his new underwear, sent to me by Slix for the purpose of this review and giveaway, he chose one of the hottest days of the summer. He works in the news business, and that day he was assigned a story outside. He complained that he was too hot, but I think he would’ve been too hot no matter what. Other than that, he said they were very comfortable.

Then, the next thing I know, the new Slix are coming through the laundry every time I do whites — meaning he is wearing them every time they hit his drawer clean and unfolded (I do NOT fold underwear). So, the conclusion: He really likes them and thinks they’re made really well and feel good.

Embassy Suites Makes for Amazing Family “Staycation” in Chicago

My husband and I decided recently to take the family on a mini “staycation” to Chicago for the weekend. We wanted the whole staying downtown, walking almost everywhere experience and the Embassy Suites Downtown Lakefront was the perfect solution for our lodging needs.

We had the pleasure of being guests at the Embassy Suites Downtown Lakefront for a Friday and Saturday night in September. If you’ve never stayed at an Embassy Suites, you should know that for a family with young children who need to go to bed before the rest of the gang is ready for lights out, it’s perfect. The spacious two-room suites are standard, which gave us some much-needed family relaxing time in the evenings. We were able to put our toddler to bed in a hotel-provided portable crib in the bedroom area, close the door and then choose from an extensive list of popular, new movies for rent via in-house pay-per-view. As you would expect, the living area couch also turns into a bed, so the suite comfortably accommodated our family of five without having to force the teen and tween to share a bed (whew!).

As if the big suites aren’t enough, the other fabulous family-friendly features of the hotel are:

the made-to-order complimentary breakfast (This was a serious spread of food options and saved us a bunch of money on breakfasts.)
eager to please staff (While the drive from our home in St. Louis to Chicago is just under six hours normally, it’s a tad longer with an active toddler. When we arrived late Friday evening, they checked us in, parked our car, delivered our luggage and set-up our portable crib in less than 15 minutes!)
daily manager’s reception with free snacks and cocktails. (Can you say happy husband?)
on-site fitness center (My competitive swimmer was distraught over having to miss swim practice for our family getaway until she spotted the lap pool.)

The hotel’s strategic location in the heart of the city’s top shopping, business and entertainment districts means you can easily walk (even with a toddler in a stoller) to Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park. It also means the hotel offers a mesmerizing view of the downtown area and of Lake Michigan.

During our visit, we visited Chicago’s Navy Pier, rode the 150-foot high Ferris Wheel, ate Ed Debevics, took a water taxi and shopped up and down Michigan Avenue.

I’d highly recommend a family “staycation” or “vacation” to Chicago, and I’d definitely direct you to the Embassy Suites Downtown Lakefront as your hotel destination. We had a great time and are anxious to do it again next fall.

Be Super Smart about the Super Bowl

Wicked Cool Wii Game

“This game is wicked cool!” and “This is so tight!” and “This is the best video game I’ve ever played!”

These are just a few of the many declarative statements made the the three 11-year-old boys who graciously agreed to help me review the recently-released video game The BIGS™ 2, sent to me by 2K Sports.

Bradley (my son), and his friends, Noah and Seamus, couldn’t say enough about how much they loved this game, which they played on the Wii. The game also was released for the Xbox 360® , the PLAYSTATION®3 and PlayStation®2 and the PSP®.

The boys played the game for hours and here are their other thoughts:

Pros:

Besides being “wicked cool” and “tight”, this game has realistic people, is easy to play and “Big Blasts Rocks!” Plus, they liked that you can choose from any league and team.

Cons:

They thought it was hard to pitch at first, and the controls were a little confusing to learn. But once conquered, the game was “totally awesome.”

The BIGS™ 2 is the sequel to the popular arcade baseball franchise. It features MLB® All-Star first baseman, Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers, as the cover athlete and spokesman for the game. The game offers fans the opportunity to enjoy bigger power-ups and amazing visual effects.

In addition to new player animations and improved pick-up-and-play controls, The BIGS 2 gives fans the ability to make more strategic decisions with the added Batter’s Wheelhouse, execute new Legendary Catches, and pull off amazing Big Slams.
