Christian Jewelry Made Incredibly Stylish – and Custom Pieces, too!

I have a new piece of jewelry that gets more attention and compliments when I wear it than my favorite piece of David Yurman. It’s a beautiful cross on a simple leather cord by kpWired Designs.

kpWired Designs is co-owned by Kim Plank and Maggie Robinson. Kim started the company about five years ago and began by beading different pieces for friends and family. Then she began using wire to create unique designs. As the demand grew, Kim knew she needed help if she wanted the business grow so Maggie joined in the most awesome madness. Together, they create designs that are made from lead-free solder wire, all hand-crafted, with each piece being unique. Many of the designs have a Christian or faith theme, such as this one:

And the prices are extremely reasonable, ranging from about $20 on the low end to the most expensive piece that includes swarovski crystals priced at $50. Kim and Maggie also design rings, bracelets and earrings, and they will do a custom piece for anyone who asks — also within those price ranges. I’ve asked Kim to work on a custom necklace for a group of my friends and she thinks it will cost about $25 for the solder wire design on a leather cord.

Obviously, the pieces are affordable (half the price of sterling, in fact, and they won’t tarnish), and 10 percent of the profits go to single Moms in the St. Louis area. (Kim and Maggie’s company mission is to create beautiful, unique and fun priced designs in the hopes that along their journey they can help struggling, single moms in St. Louis). That’s as beautiful as their creations, in my opinion.

New Favorite Piece of Jewelry

I have a new favorite piece of jewelry — it’s my new photo charm necklace from Snapfish. I just gave away one of these necklaces to one of my readers who entered a contest hosted by Snapfish on my site, here, but now that I’ve received my own photo charm necklace, I wanted to tell you why I like it so much.

The charm is small and elegant enough (1/2-inch square) that I can wear it with my business attire as easily as I can wear it with my “Mom clothes.” I chose to make the picture in my charm black and white (which I suggest for anyone who wants a more elegant look to their photo charm), and so at first glance, the photo simply looks like a black and white design. I was born in April, so my birthstone is a diamond. I received my first diamond from my parents in the form of a ring given to me at Christmas when I was a teen. My teenage daughter’s birthstone is a diamond, too, and I passed that very ring onto her a few years ago at Christmas.

This year, she’s going to get her first diamond necklace as a gift (Ssssh! She never reads this blog, so don’t tell her). Beautiful Pearl Bracelet Giveaway

I fell in love with the book “My Mother’s Pearls” by Catherine Myler Fruisen when my first-born daughter was a toddler. It’s the story of a beautiful pearl necklace that is passed from mother to daughter for seven generations on each woman’s wedding day. Once I read it, I immediately told my husband that I wanted a set of pearls that I could wear and then pass to my daughter someday.

To my absolute delight, my husband didn’t realize that when I said “set” of pearls, I meant a necklace. So, he gave me a whole “set” for Christmas that year - a necklace, bracelet, earrings and ring. I loved and cherished the set (and still do), but a few years ago, I lost the bracelet.

Recently, I discovered a pearl company that actually took the time to help me match my pearls to a new bracelet to replace the one I’d lost. I can honestly say that the service I received from Pearl Distributors regarding a bracelet they were going to give me to review was better than any service I’ve received in person at a jeweler.

My bracelet of cultured freshwater pearls arrived from Pearl Distributors in a beautiful case with a certificate of authenticity and an appraisal. It matches my existing set perfectly and is a lovely piece of jewelry, appraised at $445.

Because there is no internationally accepted regulation on the grading of pearls, they use the Mikimoto grading concept and have details on their website describing exactly what they mean by AA or AAA etc. The company encourages new customers to purchase with a 90 day money back guarantee a strand or even a pair of AAA earrings and take it in to their local jewelry store or another online pearl company to compare the quality. They claim that pearls with a price tag many times higher than theirs look dull and sometimes almost chalky next to one of their highest quality strands.

Pearl Distributors offer a full 100% money back guarantee for 90 days. (The website says 60 days because that‘s all PayPal allows for refunds, but for credit card purchases they give a full refund for up to 90 days.)

The company’s customer service advisors are very knowledgeable and can help customers make a more educated choice so they get the type of pearls that have the characteristics that are important to them personally. (Again, this was definitely my experience). The website also has an extensive Pearl Library of fascinating information on the formation and characteristics of different pearls.

The company also accepts custom requests and makes pearl strands in any length, type, or color combinations. They get their pearls direct from pearl farms in China, French Polynesia, Japan and the South Pacific and sell directly to the public without the expense of a retail store, so their jewelry is sold at more than 80% less than its retail value. That said, if your husband wants to buy you a $1500 pearl set, he can get it for $300 from Pearl Distributors!

I just returned from a short Mom getaway. It was the first “extended” trip I’ve taken away from my toddler – I was gone for three full days and two nights. And guess where I went? No, not Blogher! I have to share with you an Etsy store on one of my favorite blogging friends. Lotta makes the most beautiful jewelry from vintage beads and buttons. I have one that I bought last year that I still wear on a regular basis. I get tons of compliments on it. Everyone wants to know where I got such a unique piece. I love that they are one-of-a-kind pieces.
